INT. VICENTE'S DINING ROOM - DAY
Vicente, Evan, and Emily are seated at the wooden dinner table.
Vicente's hands are clasped in from of him on the table. Kitchen
noise can be heard in the background.
EVAN
You were not easy to find. Even
in a town this small.
(beat)
You are married?
VICENTE
I am.
(beat)
EVAN
I need your help, Vicente.
VICENTE
There is only one reason why you
would come back here, Mr. Giles.
I will not help you do what you
are here to do.
EVAN
Twenty years ago something happened
and no one is really sure what. But,
I think you might have some idea.
(beat)
We are going in there after it and
you can either help us or let us
to our own devices to make a mess
of things. I will find out what
happened to her.
Vicente's two young children come racing through the room giggling.
Vicente's daughter runs to her father for safety from her brother.
VICENTE'S WIFE
(from the kitchen)
Vuelva a la cocina, ninos.
The children exit into the kitchen. Vicente watches them go.
VICENTE
What you are asking of me
would endanger the entire
town. I cannot do this.
EVAN
What do you mean, "Endanger the entire
town?"
VICENTE
It is impossible to do what
you seek.
EVAN
But we will do it with or
without you.
There is a long moment as Vicente wrestles with his choice. He looks
away from Evan toward the sounds of his family and then back to Evan
and Emily.
